Benchmark Engineering and Land Surveying has been providing quality, innovative, and responsive service to our clients since being founded in 2005 by Dale K. Bennett, PLS, PE. With over 40 years of experience, we provide our clients with cost effective designs that take their project from inception to completion. Our staff includes licensed civil engineers, licensed land surveyors, and a strong support team of project managers, designer, survey personnel, and administration staff. Our team listens to our clients ‘ideas, is attentive to their needs, and adheres to their project’s schedule. We believe that communication is of utmost importance and we will return all calls promptly and provide a plan at the beginning of the project to help make sure communication is clear and concise. We also believe that it is extremely important to implement a Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program at the beginning of the project and prepare a plan to maximize efficiency as well as minimize mistakes and/or errors throughout the project.

Dale Bennett, PLS, PE

Dale founded Benchmark in 2005 with a passion to provide his clients with the civil engineering and land surveying needed to help their projects become successful. His goal has been to take care of his clients with the services they are required to do for their project. His passion for engineering and surveying has accumulated to over 40 years. Dale has also served on many professional organizations including President and National Director of the American Council of Engineering Companies-Utah (ACEC-Utah), Chair of the Utah Council of Land Surveyors (UCLS) Board, Chair of the UCLS Standards & Ethics Committee (he has served on this committee for 30 plus years and is still serving), and Chair for the Utah Engineers Council (UEC) Board. He was honored to be the youngest land surveyor, voted by his piers, as the “Surveyor of the Year” in 2003. When Dale is not working, he enjoys watching the Utah Jazz Play, physical fitness, going to Saint George, and spending time with all his grandkids.

Chris Poulsen, PE

Chris received his Bachelor of Science and Master’s in Engineering from Utah State University. He has engineering experience in Construction Management, Structural Engineering, and Site and Land Development. Chris has always enjoy ed finding solutions and working through puzzles, which has been useful throughout his engineering career. If you run into him out of the office you’ll likely find him snowboarding, camping and hiking, or looking for an adventure with his wife and children.

Allison received her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Utah State University followed by a Master’s in Engineering at the University of Utah. She is a dedicated project manager for both commercial and residential development projects. When she is not working with clients or troubleshooting AutoCAD, Allison enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family.

Hyrum Osguthorpe

Hyrum graduated from Utah State University in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He joined Benchmark Engineering in early 2020 and has been a drafter, civil designer, and project manager. In his spare time he enjoys reading, being outdoors, and spending time with his family.

Tim Bass

Tim is an Autodesk Certified CAD drafting professional with over 10 years of experience. He has worked in both the public and private sectors. Tim got his start in the Engineering career field when he joined the US Air Force in 2009 and was assigned to the Engineering Assistant specialty. This role included drafting, surveying, GIS, and construction management. He was a Distinguished Graduate from the Air Force’s engineering program at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He spent 10 years in the Air Force; first, as an active-duty enlistee, then in the Air Force Reserves at Hill AFB. After his service, Tim worked for a consulting engineering firm before being hired on at Benchmark in 2020. He has experience in railroad design, road & highway design, commercial site development, and residential site development.

Outside of his professional interests, Tim enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, reading, and playing videogames. He and his family enjoy visiting Utah’s beautiful National Parks or traveling to the coast for a day at the beach.
